- ➤ The search for missing 18-year-old Giovanni Pelletier is in its eighth day after he sent the text 'Help me' on Aug. 1 while vacationing in Englewood—his family now offers a $25,000 reward for any tip on his whereabouts. Law enforcement said his white Chevy Malibu was seized near I-75 and officials are asking drivers to review dashcam footage from early that morning. FOX 13 Tampa Bay
- ➤ Nicole Roberts, accused of helping her boyfriend dispose of a murder weapon in connection with the May 2024 shooting that killed Tommie Battie IV and injured his brother, has withdrawn her motion to lower her $250,000 bond + a case management hearing is set for Aug. 20. ABC7

- ➤ Manatee County voters approved a local tax in 2020 to buy more environmental land, but a 2025 report shows that only 14% of its roughly 474,000 acres are conserved compared with higher percentages in nearby counties—Sarasota at 33% and Charlotte at 42%. Since the vote, the county added nearly 5,000 acres, including lands for Crooked River and Emerson Point preserves, but it still struggles to find large parcels as developers buy them.
